How can I better troubleshoot why Spotify won't play sound?

At the moment, my laptop plays sound, except through Spotify.  I've tried:
- using different headphones
- using the laptop speakers
- uninstalling and reinstalling Spotify
- checking the Spotify is muted
- checking the computer volume isn't muted
- verifying that my headphones aren't disabled in sound properties
- checking that it isn't muted as an application in sound mixer

I'm stumped!  OS is Windows 8.  Please help!

Thanks for your answers - Spotify isn't included in the mixer options and nothing is muted.  I don't have a different user profile to try unfortunately (it's a work laptop).
And you won't be able to ask your admin to create one because you may not use spotify?
Apologies for the delay - still haven't heard back from the admin but I've accepted your comment as the answer as it was a troubleshooting technique I hadn't tried yet.  Thanks!
I ended up have recurring issues, including issues with Lync freezing and using 25% CPU time.  It turned out to be faulty Dell audio software - the fix here meant the problem went away:
