Access Continuous form - conditional formatting based on two fields

I have a continuous form I am trying to setup conditional formatting on. I have two fields - assigndue and assigndone. Both are date fields. I want assigndue to have red text when the assigndue date is past due and when assigndone is not filled in (null or blank). I have tried a number of different expressions but I just can't seem to get it to work. Here are a couple i have tried.

([ASSIGNDUE]<"date") And (IsNull[ASSIGNDONE])
([ASSIGNDUE]<"date") And ([ASSIGNDONE]="")
([ASSIGNDUE]<"date") And ([ASSIGNDONE]=NULL)

Thanks in advance!
