Network Analyzing tools

Good Afternoon Experts

I have searched through some previous threads and downloaded 3 programs and none of them are what I am looking for so I am hoping that you all can help me narrow my search down.

Many moons ago my previous boss had a network tool that had a map of every single thing connected and what ports where open and traffic, which we monitored.  We watched realtime when one of the systems got hacked and quickly took care of the issue.

Is there any kind of free network analyzing program that would show me this data either in pie chart or map form?  I want to be able to look quickly and see what is taking up all the bandwidth and also see what is normal.  I have a tool that shows me everything connected but that is all it shows.

Thank you in advance,

Karen

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Was it free or purchased?  Solarwinds have a nice Network Performance Monitor tool that can do all you described but it's not cheap.

Thank you, I am still going through them.  I installed 2 of them and they are not quite what I am looking for.  I need to be able to look at it and see where all our traffic is coming from.

Yes pretty sure the tool was free he was cheap.  I found one similar on Sourceforge but they were down as of this morning.

Capsa is amazing and what I currently am running in trial mode.  I was trying to avoid trials but the info I wanted wasn't in a free.  I couldn't get solar winds to work in either windows 8 or windows 7 so gave up on that one.  Thank you everyone.
