Recommendations for installing the Vmware's Update Manager Download Service

Dear VMware Experts,

I have installed the Update Manager 6.0 (VUM) on a virtual Windows Server 2008 R2.

I have found from VMware’s documentation the below reference regarding Update Manager Download Service (UMDS):
“You can install and use UMDS to download virtual appliance upgrades, patch binaries, patch metadata, and notifications if Update Manager does not have access to the Internet. The machine on which you install UMDS must have Internet access.”

This explains why the UMDS is required to be installed on a separate machine from Update Manager (VUM)

Q1) In order to keep my infrastructure as simple as possible, do I actually need to install also to UMDS? (since the VM that has the Update Manager will always have access to the internet)

Q2) Will the Update Manager (VUM) ,as standalone, download the updates, patches etc (as UMDS would)??

Q3) UMDS could be installed on a Domain Controller Server/Active Directory?

Q4) Is it possible to install it on a client computer and run it in case that the VUM is blocked from accessing the internet?

Thanks in advance,
Mamelas
