I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

place this function in a regular module
Function AlphaOnly(strIn As String) As String
Dim j As Integer
Dim strTemp As String
strTemp = strIn
While j < Len(strTemp)
   j = j + 1
   Select Case Asc(Mid$(strTemp, j, 1))
   Case 65 To 90
      ' do nothing. we want to keep these!
   Case 97 To 122
   ' do nothing. we want to keep these!
   Case Else
      ' get rid of everything else:
      strTemp = Left$(strTemp, j - 1) & _
               Mid$(strTemp, j + 1)
      If j > 1 Then j = j - 1
   End Select
Wend
AlphaOnly = strTemp
End Function

Open in new window

to use call the funtion with the string as parameter
