Getting emails while account is disabled

Can users still get emails to their inbox when their AD account has been disabled ( not deleted )?

An example would be. A user leaves the company, and their AD account gets disabled, but their inbox wasn't deleted. When users email that disabled account, will they get an error saying that email address isn't there or will it go into that disabled user's inbox still?

We are on exchange 2010 SP3 Rollup 9
