Lync 2013 to Skype for business

We're having Lync 2013 in our environment and planing on updating to the latest patches which means to migrate to 'Skype for business'. Our phone system is also running through Lync, connecting Polycom phones. Is there anything we should be wary about this update? From what I've seen online, it is pretty straight forward but I was curious to hear from people that have been through this already.

Many thanks!

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Microsoft has a page explaining the transition:

We went through it - it was pretty straightforward for us.

Thank you for your response!

Did you install the upgrade on the server side and the clients at the same time? From what I know they can be done separately but I was curious how you did yours.

Thanks again.

Our upgrade started at the server and the old clients still worked.  The new clients were rolled out in steps later.

So, the upgrade should be transparent to the user until the clients are actually upgraded? Are there any steps necessary in order to make the new "Skype for Business' server work with the old 'Lync' clients?

Thank you.
There's no additional steps necessary.
The new SFB server supports the old clients (e.g. Lync 2010, Lync for Mac 2011, Lync 2013) .
