Lotus Notes: Email Delivery Failure

Hi Guys,

When ever anyone attempts to email my internal office, the external person gets the following message and the email never gets through. Please HELP!

The following message to <John.smith@domain.com> was undeliverable.
The reason for the problem:
5.3.0 - Other mail system problem 554-'Error writing message to safe storage; message could not be stored to disk'


Lotus Notes version 8.52


Please let me know if there is a fix, users are not able to get emails.

Could it be that the disk where the Notes databases are stored is full? Or the destination mail database itself?

Or the mail.box database(s) may be full. Do you do the necessary management on these database(s), checking stuck mail every now and then? You might have to recreate mail.box, see here for a short way to do that:

And which exact version of Domino do you use?

Hi Sjef Bosman,

Thank you for your response. After some troubleshooting it looks like it's only certain emails that aren't able to get to our user's inbox. It appears as though emails sent to us from office 365 emails are bouncing back to the sender.

Emails from gmail.com, yahoo.com, and other domains seem to get to the user's inbox with no problem.

Thoughts?

Heheheheh.. thoughts... about Office365 you mean? ;) No, I'll keep them to myself.

No other errors in your log.nsf database? It's shooting in the dark, but might this apply: http://marc-bourassa.com/?s=domino

By the way, are you sure that your Domino server rejects the message? Can you find traces of it in your log? It might be some intermediate server that refuses to handle those mails. Do you have the header of a bounced mail? And what Domino version do you use?

Check as well if the server's Antivirus software could be the cause (disable, send mail, enable).

I renamed the mail.box file to mail.bk, rebooted the server and everything stated to work again.

Nice! Don't forget to check the old mail.bk database (it's just a Notes database with a different extension that you can open) to see if there are unsent or undelivered mails.
