Cucumber for PHP

Hi all,

I use PHP but I have recently discovered some interesting tools in the JAVA ecosystem like Cucumber, Maven, Jenkins.

Regarding Cucumber, is there any equivalent for PHP world?

Best regards,
Richard

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Testing PHP is probably best done with PHPUnit and Mockery.  A key to the nature of "mainstream" solutions can be found in the number of forks and downloads.  Both of these are widely used.  That means they are debugged and there is a robust community of PHP experts who also use the programs, and who can provide ideas and expertise.  Not so for Cucumber, at least not yet.  Here is a link that is somewhat revealing:

As a general rule, PHP does not benefit from Behavior-Driven testing because it's a server-side technology and is therefore only minimally involved in client behaviors.   Modern application design theory puts the data model on the server (PHP + MySQL) and implements an API.  The behaviors and appearances are on the client (HTML + JavaScript + CSS).  The communication is RESTful requests and JSON responses.
