Android contacts

Is there a way to install various communication software like Skype, Tango, Whatsapp etc such that my normal phone contacts are not affected?

Whenever I install one of these software I get multiple entries of each of my contacts and they do not go away even if I uninstall the software and I have to manually manage them.

From a functionality and developer standpoint, what you ask is pretty much not possible. It's also possible your Android is not sticking to the standard procedure. Normal phones DO NOT make multiple entries. It will only simply set a flag. You might experience it as an extra entry if you Android is buggy (could be also the manufacturer's GUI or app layer).
But in normal operations, NO extra contacts are made. You can test it yourself. Make a few contacts in your Google account (in gmail, contacts). You can also just copy the current ones from the phone or sim card. And then remove the original. After Tango/Whatsapp etc does a new scan, you will see some extra Tango/Whatsapp icons in your Contacts app. But if you check back in your Gmail, you will see absolutely the same contacts. NO EXTRA contacts at all.
If this is not the case, your phone screwed things up. Either check if there's an update for your phone that might have solved this situation, or contact them to fix it (if phone isn't too old).
Anyway, even if your phone wasn't this buggy, there's still no solution, as the apps are just programmed that way (otherwise, they just don't function at all). Only Skype has the options to not touch your address book, but Tango and Whatsapp just plainly relies on it as a principle.
