I would like to include Doc2 in Doc1, such that changes to Doc2 get reflected in Doc1 when you &quot;update fields&quot; in Doc1. 
The filenames are as follows: 
Doc1: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doc-Main.doc 
Doc2: &nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp;Doc-Sub.doc 
Both reside in the same folder -- &nbsp; &nbsp; C:\Temp 
 
From WordHelp it seems that the &quot;IncludeText&quot; field will accomplish my objective. 
 
I goto &nbsp;/Insert/Fields/IncludeText 
In the &quot;filename&quot; box I enter &nbsp;Doc-Sub.doc 
Then I click OK 
 
What appears in Doc1 is 
&nbsp; &nbsp; &nbsp; Error! Not a valid filename. 
&nbsp; 
However if I change the Doc2 filename to DocSub.doc &nbsp;(ie, no hyphen), and repeat the process it works. 
 
Does that mean for purposes of &quot;IncludeText&quot; filenames cannot contain special characters? 
If so, are there any other ways to accomplish my objective. 
 
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

[MS-Word]  Including one document within another

Microsoft Word is a commercial document editing program that is part of the Microsoft Office suite. It features numerous text-editing tools for creating richly formatted documents, along with tools for the use of macros in Word documents. Word's native file formats are denoted either by a .doc or .docx file extension.
