When I attempt to use putty to SSH into a Linux instance running on virtual box I get “network error : connection timed out” The second time I try it works fine

Also when I RDP to a windows box running on ESXI 5.5 on a local server here , I get “ Remote Desktop cant’connect…..”

Do you have firewalls enabled in the VMs ?
Can you ping the systems? Checked firewalls? Anything?

no , the windows boxes have the firewalls turned off the linux stuff does not have anything I know running on it that would be considered a firewall

yes I can get in I just have to try 2 times

Yes, I'm thinking an IP-conflict or something as well, hence I asked if the vm's can be pinged or such.
