Are you using bridged or NAT networking for Virtualbox?
If NAT, you might have to configure port forwarding ...

If you want your virtual machines to be available on your own network use bridged networking.

correction on this : both of the instaces the Linux and Windows are on VMWARE not virtual box , they are a vmware server here in our building

so check the same kind of settings in vmware ?

where is that??

thanks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you ping the systems? Checked firewalls? Anything?
NAMEWITHELD12Author Commented:
no , the windows boxes have the firewalls turned off the linux stuff does not have anything I know running on it that would be considered a firewall

a ubuntu 14.04 with ssh server and docker and docker swarm running
Zephyr ICTCloud ArchitectCommented:
Is remote desktop enabled on the windows server?
With Linux you can sometimes connect on ssh?
NAMEWITHELD12Author Commented:
yes I can get in I just have to try 2 times

I can also get into the linux but have to try 2 times
SandyCommented:
It seems like same IPs are being used in network by multiple equipment. Just try to ping the IP by powering-off these VMs if possible to understand whether it is network issue or something else.

Because to me it is not the issue with firewall or not the settings because at the second time as you mentioned it is working.

Yes, I'm thinking an IP-conflict or something as well, hence I asked if the vm's can be pinged or such.
