Automatic DNS server info

I recently had to change the IP address of my DNS server (Windows Server 2008.) Now if I enter the correct server manually on user's PCs it brings it to the right server. But if I choose "Obtain automatically" it's still pulling the old address. Is there anyway I can determine where it's pulling it from? To be clear - I know how I can see what DNS server it's pulling, I need to find out where it's getting that information in the first place.

Your client PCs are probably receiving IP configuration from a DHCP server. You'll need to change the DNS Server address to the new IP in your DHCP scope options.

The DNS Server information is _probably_ coming from a DHCP Server.
While you have the machine to 'Obtain automatically' -- run from the cmd prompt 'ipconfig /all' and look for the link that reads DHCP Server.  On that server, you'll need to configure your scope to hand out the new DNS Server information.

I wonder if you might be on to something. DHCP is handled by the Sonicwall. All PCs (Those that are bringing up the right and wrong DNS server address) are showing the correct DHCP server. I only have DHCP set for PCs. The IP addresses for the servers I have entered automatically. The DNS is set on the Sonicwall (See attached picture.) But I don't see anywhere else on the Sonicwall where the old address might be.

Another thing I'm finding out is some PCs that are set to obtain automatically are pulling the correct new address while others are pulling the old one. I thought it was determined by the age of the PC but I just found a recently installed PC that is bringing up the old DNS server address.

Paul and Rich, thank you. I've been using IPconfig /release and renew but it's still pulling from the wrong place. I guess my question is - if there is a "rogue" server issuing the wrong information is there anyway from an affected computer to trace the issuing back to the server that is sending it out? To help me find where the misinformation is coming from?

Thank you for your help. By reminding me where the DHCP server was (In my case it was my Firewall) I was able to track down the problem. The DNS server on the firewall was set correctly but there is a secondary tab within each scope entry within the configuration menu called DNS/WINS. On this tab there is an option to Inherit the DNS Settings Dynamically or to Specify Manually.  For some reason my predecessor had set many of these older PCs to specify manually. These had the wrong entry. By changing each entry to Inherit Dynamically the problem was fixed.
