Is it possible to convert an Outlook.ost to a .pst file?

We found many missing emails on the Exchange 2010 mailbox for a previous employee. The backup is not available but we found a very current Outlook.ost on a desktop computer. We don't want to open his Outlook on this computer since we are afraid once opening Outlook and syncing to Exchange server, the current mails will be gone.
His AD user account is still alive. Is it possible to convert an Outlook.ost file to a .pst file so we can access it?

Yes you can, use the OST to PST converter:

Backu up and make a copy of the original OST before converting the copy to make sure you have a backup.

or you could disconnect the network cable or disable the adapter in windows then open outlook
it can't connect to exchange and outlook will be offline thus can't sync; from there you can export those missing mails to a pst

Turn off the wireless/unplug the network cable from the computer.

Now, Open Outlook and it won't be able to update (backup the OST file JUST TO BE SAFE) so the cached copy will show you everything.  (It's working offline)

Create a PST file and just copy the folders/messages you want to preserve.

Why you don't want to open his Outlook? By opening his Outlook you can simply use import-export to extract item from ost to pst. Otherwise, I don't think there is any free option for that.

However, you may give a try this blog for recovering data from Exchange ost file (in case if it works but I am not sure), or alternatively try software for convert ost file to pst.

That is all what I've found. Rest on you,

Good Luck,

In your situation, you only have the option to convert Outlook.ost file to PST format to access in outlook email client. To perform the conversion of OST file into PST you need an OST to PST converter utility because by using conversion utility you can easily convert files without data loss.  You can visit here for OST to PST converter: http://www.ost.2pst.net/.
