SQL 2012 instance name

One of the SQL servers show a name of SQL-Server1\SQLSERVER1 when right-clicking the properties in SQL Studio Management while other SQL servers show just the server name (ex: SQL-Server2). How would I modify the first one to show only the server name. I assume it's the instance name but I'm not sure how to change it.

Thank you

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

the other servers were installed as default instance, so there is  no name associated with it. In order for the named instance to  change, you need to setup another sql instance with the default instance and move all your databases, then uninstall your named instance.
I am not so sure whether that's few hours of work.

You mean you want to change server-1\servername to just SERVER-1

if this is the case , you can not change it.
