Email Marketing Software

Hi,

Does anyone know if there is any email marketing software that will allow you to send individual emails to people which will then allow you to track if they opened it etc... and then compare which emails (subject lines) were opened most... along with other key metrics.

I know MailChimp allows you to send emails in bulk but i was looking for something more for one off emails.

Thanks in advance for your help.

Almost all email marketing systems (EMS) will allow you to send and track the results of emails. You first need to realize that this is not an exact science because the tracking is done with a tracking pixel. If someone doesn't load images, then they may have opened the mail, but it will not look like it to you.  Or if the company has a spam filter, it can make it look like an email has been opened when it was not.

However, even considering these limitations, I highly recommend EMS or marketing automation systems. (Marketing automation systems add features in addition to email.)

In terms of recommendations, is there a reason Mail Chimp (or Get Response or Constant Contact as other low-cost options) will not work for you? These will all meet your requirements. Is it too expensive or is there another requirement we are missing?

If it is the cost, you might want to try sidekick (www.getsidekick.com/email-tracking-gmail) from a company called Hubspot (Hubspot is a marketing automation solution). I have never tried it (have always used EMS or marketing automation systems), but it looks like what you are looking for and Hubspot is a reputable name in marketing automation.

There are other solutions as well if you search Google for: "track emails from gmail."  Here is another one as a plugin to chrome that is highly rated in the chrome store: chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/mailtrack-for-gmail

If you are looking for a SMTP server that allows for some Mailchimp-esque tracking, look into Mandrill (mandrillapp.com) by the same company.

It's free for the first 12,000 emails a month and will track clicks if set to do so.  So emails sent from your mail client of choice can be tracked.

However, I agree with Mark Grondin's position.  You probably want EMS or simple bulk mailing platforms like MailChimp for what you are looking to do.

Hi guys, thanks for all the replies. I'll explain a little further and hopefully you can guide me in the right direction.

I am already using Sidekick and it is great, however i'd like to take it one step futher.

MY IDEAL SOFTWARE
- create a new campaign, for example called 'Summer Sale'
- add 5 (A, B, C, D, E) different versions of the same email to the campaign (choosing different Subject Lines and changing the content around
- manually choose 1 of the 5 emails and email it to a potential customer
- manually choose other versions of the email and manually email them to various other potential customers
- all emails are sent from my company email address (and not some 3rd party service email address)
- review the campaign dashboard that shows how many emails were sent out for each version of A, B, C, D, E along with the number and % of emails that were opened

I think MailChimp can do similar things but can it be used for manual / small number emails without having to setup 101 different settings?

You are talking about basic EMS features.  Some of the top platforms for a simple EMS for small business (there are more complex and expensive ones like Bronto and Exact Target) are:
Mailchimp
Constant Contact
Get Response

I have used all three in some capacity and found them all to be reasonable, and all can do your basic tasks noted above.

Would you recommend anyone in particular for my needs. Thanks again for your help.

I like Get Response, then Mail Chimp, then Constant Contact.

I used to recommend Constant Contact but I don't any more.  They are pretty liberal in allowing unverified list imports and as a result, a lot of institutions block them (at least in my line of work). So I would stick to Get Response or Mail Chimp only and not even consider CC as an option now.

Hi, sorry just another quick question.

Do you know if any of these software packages allow several users to sign in and send from different email addresses:

For example, john logs in and sends from john@domain.com and peter signs in and sends from peter@domain.com?

An added bonues would be able to update each customer to a different sales status too.

Generally, all users can sign in and send from all email addresses.  You might be able to limit this, but I have never used a function like that.

Updating customers to a different sales status is getting into CRM functionality. Do you have a CRM?  Where would you like to update the customer, in the EMS?  If so, you should be able to add a field to the customer record and apply a value to that based on sends (using logic like, if X opened this message, change this field to Y).

If you have more questions  in the marketing automation direction, we can answer them, but it might be better to close this as solved and open a new discussion.
