New IMac Fusion Drive Can't Be Erased

Brand new IMac with the new 3 TB Fusion Drive doesn't seem to want to cooperate.

When I boot in recovery mode via Command + R so I can either erase the disk with Disk Utility or Restore from Time Machine, I get the same error saying the disk can't be erased.

Any pros out there know how to solve this?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Formatting/wiping Fusion drives isn't for the faint of heart, it requires a special approach if you don't want to be left behind with a borked Fusion drive... (which can be solved but you'll need an external disk with Mac OS X on it to boot from that, etc...)

Anyway, if you really want to start fresh, there's a tutorial here that can get you going.

But again, lot's of people ran into issues, so really make sure you understand what needs to be done before pushing true, not trying to scare you though ;-) .
