Using a second screen problem

Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series. OS 8.1
Using a TV as a second screen, to when streaming a program, the Laptop Screen switches over to screen saver mode after about 10 minutes, so I have to sweep the touch pad to restore the picture both on Laptop and external screen (TV). How do I prevent this from happening.
(On my Laptop the 'screen-saver', mode is a blank screen.)

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Turn screen saver mode off.
Press Windows key, type screen saver, select "Change screen saver".

Hi Michael,

I recommend two settings:

(1) Disable screen saver via:

Control Panel
Screen Saver -> None

(2) Disable turning off display via:

Control Panel
Power Options
Change Plan Settings
Turn off the display -> Never

Regards, Joe

Turn off the screen saver. If you are using windows media play this can be achieved using

In Windows Media Player select Tools->Options.
On Player tab, uncheck: Allow screen saver during playback.

This could also be your power plan settings. Have a look at this tutorial to change these settings

I would suggest you create a new power profile (rather than modifying your existing ones as everyone else seems to be suggesting) and call it something like "TV Watching" - then under that profile, modify your power configuration settings.  You MAY also have to adjust the screen saver settings.
