Cannot add user to Exchange 2010 distribution group

Hello :)

I am trying to add a particular user to an existing distribution group in exchange 2010.

When I do I get this error:

The following error(s) occurred while saving changes:
Add-DistributionGroupMember Failed
Error: Active Directory operation failed on MSP-NCR-DC02.masport.co.nz.
One or more attribute entries of the object 'CN=Fin,CN=Users,DC=masport,DC=co,DC=nz' already exists.

I tried another user and had the same result

what could be causing this error?

thanks
Tracy

Have you tried doing Get-DistributionGroupMember | select name to see if that user is actually part of this distribution group already? If you do it through the GUI do you get the same result?

Try to change the "Membership Approval" setting
From: Owner Approval
To: Closed

If the set of this option is Closed, try to set the option to Open then reset the option back to Closed.

Hi,
For your question, please check the DG member as Will mentioned first.
Please open Active Directory Users and Computers, drill down to the user properties, go to member of, then change the user's primary group to be different from the one you want add now. After above complete, run Get-DistributionGroupMember | select name and check again.
