Crystal Reports linked to VB application

Hi Guys,

We have a very old application, which was developed in VB.
The developer at the time linked the VB application to some crystal reports.

I am not sure about the VB / crystal interface that was used, but small changes we've made to the text and document signatures in the crystal reports worked fine.

The problem we currently face is that a letterhead BMP image used as a background for some reports has to be replaced.

Removing this "background" image stops the application from generating the report in PDF.
The VB application does however still print the Crystal report.  Only the PDF generation is affected.

When I replace the report (from backup) with the background image intact, the PDF is then again successfully generated by the application.

It doesn't make sense that an image can break the PDF generation, but I tried this again and again with the same result.
The CR file name stays the same, only the file size, date & time changes.

Any ideas, or help will be much appreciated!

I agree that doesn't make sense.

DO you know how you are generating the PDF?

What version of Crystal are you using?

What version of Crystal was the application written with?

Are these reports that were developed with the application?

One thing to try would be to add a PDF printer to your system and use that to print the reports to PDF format.

Here is one I have used

Thanks for your help thus far,

I also tried to suppress the image with the exact same result.  Application stopped generating PDF.

I managed to remove / replace the image by reducing the size of the (old) image to 1%.
Then Inserted the new image as BMP
Report is now printing and generating PDF

At least the problem is sorted for now.  The application will only be used for another couple of months,

We will probably use it (as is) for now.

Years ago, with older versions of Crystal, I've seen a few cases of report corruption that match your description.
You may be able to fix the issue by exporting the report to a Crystal Report format. That gives you a new rpt with saved data.  Then, see if you can change the image in the new rpt without a problem.
