You have a damage QuickBooks file.

Make sure you have a valid backup of the company file - then:

1.On your keyboard, press Windows  +  E to open the Computer window.

2.Click Uninstall or change a program.

3.Select QuickBooks.

4.Once QuickBooks is selected, click Uninstall/Change.

5.In the QuickBooks Installation window, click Next, select the Repair radio button, click Next, click Repair.

6.Click Finish. Your installation of QuickBooks should now be repaired.

7 Restart your system and then open QuickBooks and see how it responds.
First, make sure you have a local copy of the Company File on the computer you did the QuickBooks repair. If QuickBooks is only on one computer, make a backup copy of the database.

From the above instructions, can you open QuickBooks?  Yes / No.

If yes, open the local (backup) copy of the Company file (do not use Recent).

Now select File, Utilities, and do a rebuild of the Company File. This will repair the database.

Now move the repaired database back to the company file location.

The quickbooks database lives on a linux server and is used in multi user mode. There are 4 computers using the files but only one of the has this error! I can go through the repair process but would it make sense that only one of the computers has the problem.

As I noted above, you need to repair the QB installation files on the problem computer. This has nothing to do with the data files on the server.
If a Repair does not work (it does not always), you need to reinstall QuickBooks.
