logical drive problem...partition size is awkward?

One of the computers I am using has a 300 GB hard drive.  The C drive is approximately 60 GB (almost full) and the D drive (a partition/logical drive) is approximately 230 GB.  This D drive is empty.  I would like to change the configuration to one larger C drive in order to allow the computer to work more efficiently.  The operating system is Windows 7 Home Premium.  What is the best way to go about doing this?
thanks,

"Personally I think there's nothing wrong with have the OS on C:\ and a D:\ partition for the data."

I agree, I would never want one partition for O.S and data.  It's much easier to re-image when need to and cleaner.  It's good practice.
having C nearly full leads me to this question : what is taking the space?
anything you can uninstall, or move to the D: drive?
how much is available on D?
Right click on My Computer - Manage - Disk Management.
There you can delete D: drive and then right click on C: - extend.
Allocate to it 50-80GB space (in MB it will be 85000MB approximately).
Apply changes and wait till it finished. Now your C: drive is over 100GB.
Recreate D: drive of the rest of the space and store there your data files only.

Good answers and good advice from all three experts.  Partition resizing has always been a mystery to me.
thanks,

re-open the question and I will re-allocate the points.  The guy has made a good point.
thermoduric,
I thought you were going to re-open the question to allow me to re-allocate the points.  Seth Simmons has made a very good point.  He should be awarded points for his answer.  My mistake.
Please advise.

capreol - did you find out yet what is taking up the space?
okay thermoduric...how do I reallocate the points???  this is a hair on the frustrating side to say the least.
capreol
Lol, forgive me but this is funny.  Good luck!
Thank you thermoduric.  I have reallocated the points as I believe they should be allocated.  I resized the partitions today with the tools built in to Windows 7 and all went well.
