I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Sounds like you could lose everything.  I found how to change the media server name, but not how to change a client server name:

Do you have support, I would recommend calling them if you absolutely have to rename the server.

Of the Record:  Logically it seems like you could rename it and then re-add it to your job.  If you ever needed to restore you would have to Inventory/catalog, and of course change the restore location.

Sounds like more trouble than its worth.
good luck,
