I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This article was written over 7 years ago.  But going with the information back then, it looks like Symantec is 3x the cost of DPM.

That being said, in addition to the cost savings, Symantec only bests MS in pretty much one are....Bare Metal Recovery.  And that was not by much.

How often are you doing BMRs?

With this information and past experience I'd choose Microsoft.  But I'd get some current statistics before making a decision.

I second the MSFT option only because I've used Symantec BUE now for almost 8 years and I absolutely hate it.  It'll work perfectly for a while and lull you into a false sense of security then out of nowhere BAM! it starts failing for weird reasons. Rarely but it does happen all the BUE services will be stopped. (we never did find out why on that one).
