Cisco IP Phone 7961

We have several of these phones in our office.  Before our move they were all setup with a different provider.  Since the move we have change our provider to  I see they provide all of the information for sip domain, outbound proxy etc...for the phones to be setup.

I started with my first one this morning, I reset it with the 123456789*0# command and now it appears to be stuck in a loop where it comes on says it's upgrading for a minute or two then goes to a Cisco splash screen for a minute then blank screen and repeats.  Any ideas on how to get the phone to boot so I can enter in the new settings and get the phones back online?

The phone wiped the firmware from its memory. It is not entirely bricked, but you'll need a few components running properly to bring it back up.

You'll need a TFTP server, loaded with the proper configuration file, and it pointing to a firmware load that the phone can also download from the TFTP. In short, you need access to Cisco's website to download the firmware package.

Just did a quick google search, seems like there are a lot of TFTP servers out here.  Is there one you recommend?

I had this problem also with a 504G, there the problem was the same as you.

what is youre current firmware and what is the version of the new one. i think you need to make a stop in the middle. because you have to stay on the update schema of the phone. and you cant skip some levels.

The issue Benjamin mentions is documented here:

What Nathan describes is, at this point, the problem I explained initially. He'll need to provision the phone through TFTP accordingly to revive it.

@Willy - I tried your tutorial and I think I'm stuck.

It says I need CUCM 7.1.5 to get the default xml file.  When I try to download that from Cisco it says I need to have a paid account.  I'm guessing without that file I cannot move forward.
José MéndezCommented:
That is correct. The XML file won't be available on Cisco's website as far as I know. This configuration files are generated by the Communications Manager system. If you don't have one, you have to get it from the Internet.
