Filemaker Pro 14 Advanced - Runtime Kiosk to FMpro Server 14

Hi there,

Can I create a run time solution in kiosk mode that would connect with Filemaker Pro Server (with proper connection licensing of course)?

You're sort of mixing apples and oranges here. FileMaker Runtimes are designed to be standalone applications and do not support direct connections to FileMaker Server. FileMaker Server supports:

1) Direct connections via FileMaker Pro (up to 250 I believe). You do not need "Concurrent Connection" licensing but you do need a license for each copy of FM Pro.

2) Direct connection via FlieMaker Go on an iOS device like an iPad, iPhone, iPod - and which uses one Concurrent Connection for each user connecting

3) Direct connection via a browser and utilizing FlieMaker WebDirect technology - and which uses one Concurrent Connection for each user connecting

For a Server connected Kiosk, you'll need to look at one of those options. If the Kiosk is computer based, you can user FM Pro directly (licensing fee) or a browser (free) plus a WebDirect (Concurrent Connection); if it's iPad based you can use FM Go (free) and a Concurrent Connection (licensing fee). The main advantage of FM Go over WebDirect is that FM Go is essentially a "thin" version of FM Pro and will give you near FM Pro functionality while WebDirect - which does a tremendous job of translating FM Layouts to HTML/Javascript - will not be quite so full featured and will vary from browser to browser somewhat.

Hi Will,

Sorry for taking soooo long to reply.

It has been a loooog week!!

What about using a Filemaker pro runtime solution.

I truly expect a concurrent connection would be required, but would it be possible, and could it run in kiosk mode?

The Developer Tools in FileMaker Advanced for creating Runtime solution have settings for Kiosk mode that you can configure when you create it. The downside of the Runtime is that it cannot connect to FileMaker Server.
