How do I get Win 8.1 File Explorer to show thumbnail images for Photoshop files?

I'm running Photoshop CC. Is there a simple way to get Windows 8.1 File Explorer to show thumbnail images for my .psd files?

Thanks.

When the site comes back online, try SageThumbs: http://www.cherubicsoft.com/en/projects/sagethumbs

It worked well in Windows 7, it should work with Windows 8 too.

Hi ou81aswell,

By default Win 8.1 will not show thumbnails for PSD (Photoshop) or many other Adobe file types.

For that you have to use  third-party plugins. Most are paid, and some are free.

FastPictureViewer Codec Pack 3.8 Windows Add-In (32/64 bit) (paid, not free)

As per  FastPictureViewer :

The FastPictureViewer Codec Pack adds fast thumbnail and preview support to Microsoft Windows for many image formats, including RAW formats from more than 580 digital cameras, Photoshop PSD, OpenEXR, TGA, DDS, HDR, Maya IFF, SGI RGB, JPEG 2000 and more! The Codec Pack is compatible with Windows 10 Desktop, Windows 8.x Desktop, Windows 7, Windows Vista and Windows XP SP3 and also creates thumbnails for Google SketchUp, Adobe InDesign, Adobe Illustrator, EPS and Adobe PDF-XMP.

There were bugs in the Photoshop codic which could not be fixed. That is why (so they claim) that they came up with Adobe Bridge, so that you can see thumbnails.

Many people download an old codic and it works, but has been known to cause problems with Photoshop. Others, like the ones listed above have codics that they will sell you. My suspicion is that some of them are selling you the old codec. I suggest you download either the old codic, or one of the free versions (which might be the same thing.)

If it works fine, but if Photoshop starts acting up, take it out and reboot and see if that makes things go away,
