IIS 7.5 Server 2008 name changed

Websites that ran under IIS 7.5 and server 2008r2 worked until the IIS server and the SQL server names were changed.  How do I get my websites backup?  what should I have changed in SQL and/or IIS to allow websites to work after changing the server names?

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Welcome to the world of unintended consequences

you will haver to change the connection string in the web.config to point to the new sql server name of each website that uses the changed sql server name.
you will have to change your DNS to point to the new server's name i.e
cname www.mydomain.com newservername
you may have to change your routers port forwarding rules for port 80/443 to point to the ip address if changed
