"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

" mysqlimport --delete database_name file.sql  " that refers to a separate utility program that is not part of phpMyAdmin.  I have attached a pic of the main screen for a database in phpMYAdmin.  If you click on 'Drop', it will remove the table entirely.  If you click on Empty, it will remove the data but keep the table definition.

In other words, you can't just click Import and overwrite existing tables: first you have to drop (or empty) existing tables you're going to import the way suggested by Rob and then you can import your .sql file.

Ooops, I was wrong: I said Rob instead of Dave... Sorry, Dave.
@prenreg, I think you should split points between me and Dave: half of the answer is in his comment.
