oracle DB client

I have downloaded a tool to query one of our corporate Oracle DB. software is as follows:

http://www.benthicsoftware.com/golden.html

A pre req for the software is to install the oracle database client. I went to google and given I am working on a windows 7 X-86 based system. I downloaded the first download copy of "the client" from the below..

http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/winx64soft-089540.html

"Version 12.1.0.2.0

Instant Client Package - Basic: All files required to run OCI, OCCI, and JDBC-OCI applications

instantclient-basic-windows.x64-12.1.0.2.0.zip (72,416,242 bytes) (cksum - 1751087003)"

It is just a zip file full of random files, no setup.exe or anything like that to "intall" it on my machine.

so my question is:
1) is this the right oracle client for windows 7?
2) what am I supposed to do once unzipped the files to my pc to get it installed?

the instant client is just a zip that is correct.
and you simply unzip it somewhere to install it.

you will need to make sure the 64 vs 32 bit match between your benthic version and client version.

That is, if you have the 32-bit benthic, then your 64-bit client won't be used.

>to install it

How do you then install it, as there is no obvious setup.exe type applicaiton in the list of files..

Not setup unless you get extra packages like ODBC.  Unzip and run.  One exception:  you will likely need the tnsnames.ora file and to manually create the network/admin folder.

>>1) is this the right oracle client for windows 7?

Right client for what?  It depends on what you want to do.  For example, sqlplus is another download.

>Unzip and run

Run what? The right client to allow our database software linked in the first question to run and query the database.

unzip anywhere you want

then in your benthic application there should be an option to specify where to find your client

Looks a LOT like SQL Developer which is free and an Oracle product:
