Proliant ML350 RAID 5 Hot Spare Failed
Hello,
I have a Proliant ML350 G4 with a RAID 5 on a Smart Array 641 array controller.
It has six drives with one as a online spare. After a reboot the spare came back as failed. Having never seen this situation before, I have a question about replacing the drive.
Do I just hot swap in a replacement drive with the server running, like a normal drive failure? Will the array automatically configure the new drive as a spare?
Thanks!

The rebuilding process is pretty straight forward. After you swap the disk it will begin automcatically. You can use the HP tools to monitor
I wouldn't guarantee that the replacement is automatically assigned as a hot spare without trying it so I would check using the ACU to confirm after replacing it.

Popped out the failed spare and inserted the replacement. No rebuild needed and it got marked as a spare automatically!
