Network Adapter Takes a Long Time to Get IP Address

I have a Windows 7 Pro with SP1 PC that recently takes a really long time to obtain an IP address.  I tried reset network adapter, un-installed/re-installed the driver, flush dns, cleared all temp and reset Windows updates... however, nothing seems to help resolve the issue.  Could you help please?  Thanks.

Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The things you have done affect the computer.

What is the path to the DHCP server and how much traffic / congestion is on that path?

Can you temporarily connect the machine to a switch right next to the DHCP server?  Start it up and does it still take a long time?

thanks both!  sorry for the long response.  I found out that the machine was plugged into a faulty port on the switch... a replacement for that switch is on the way.
