door opens which activates a noise

when a door is open I want to hear a noise
but in another area

too often the noise is next to the door

but I want the noise on my computer (ideally so I can do reporting)
or somewhere far away with a small device (but do not want a long wire)

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

This might not be quite what you're looking for, but,  I have a security camera on my front door that when someone walks by it beeps, plays an audio file (on my computer), sends me a text or emails me, etc.....

It's a $12 camera and a $30 piece of software (BlueIris).   LOL, i've even set it up to play a WAV file of a mean dog barking when that motion is detected at my door.

If the camera was aimed at a potentially opening door, it would be triggered each time that door opens.

BlueIris can monitor my front door or a door on the other side of the planet (internet connection required).

Good luck with finding your solution.

You can purchase a PIR sensor on ebay for a dollar or so. It outputs 3.3v when something is sensed.
You could purchase a wireless door bell and hook the PIR up to it to sound the bell.
