Oracle script "define variable" prompting for new value because of underscore character

Oracle sqlplus is prompting for a new variable because of an underscore.  Example below.  I want &name to be replaced not prompted for another variable value.

define name="&1"
define filename="c:\temp\&name_additional_info.txt"

SQLPLUS then prompts for a new variable value.

    Enter value for name_additional_info

The underscore or any alphanumeric character will cause a prompt for a new variable.

Try this:
define filename="c:\temp\&&name._additional_info.txt"

You just need to end the referenced variable name with a period (default concatenate operator), so this will work:

define filename="c:\temp\&name._additional_info.txt"

If you wish to append characters immediately after a substitution variable, use a period to separate the variable from the character.
