Can I clean log of running tomcat 7 server ?

my tomcat 7 server is running.

Can I   run the following command to clean logs  when tomcat is running ?

truncate catalina.out       

Open in new window

Will there be any issue ?

I dont' want to shut down server  and then clean logs.

Probably you must patch the server once every couple of months and shut it down.
catalina.out an be truncated at no punishment.

add it to some log rotation script. It is meant to be read, and probably you can cut webapp logging a bit.
