"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

For lost phone, tracking is meaningless as the one who has picked up your phone will immediately remove your SIM card and did a factory reset and you can no longer track it anymore.

You need to install an app like the one below and the app will be “Device Administrator” so that the person who pick up your phone cannot factory reset it without entering your password.

But, the above needs to be done prior to the loss of your smartphone.

I had been using LocateMyDroid for several years, but it stopped working. In looking for an alternate solution, I found this thread, tried Ariana's recommendation, and it worked perfectly — have been using it ever since (not a Samsung phone).

Scott's and csstad2's posts hit within one minute of each other and are great for Samsung owners, which the OP is. Scott's link is still good, csstad2's isn't, but the front part of his link, which is the same as Scott's, works fine:

Also, Jackie's comment is an excellent one!

For these reasons, I think an EE member with the same problem that I had would be well-served to find this solution in the PAQ. Even though it is nearly two years old, the recommended solutions are still good, and I suggest that Scott's post be the Accepted Solution, with the posts by cwstad2, Ariana, and Jackie as Assisted Solutions. I recommend an even split of points — 125 for each of the following:

#a40918028 (cwstad2)
#a42100448 (Ariana)
#a42119789 (Jackie)

After submitting my "Object" post, the "Help Close" dialog came up, so I'm closing it. The reasons are in my earlier post. Regards, Joe
