Learning Windows 2008 Server and Networking

Hi Experts,

If I wanted to learn about Windows 2008 Server and associated networking what course would you recommend? I do not want to become a career network engineer I just want that first rung on the ladder course that will help me with the Win 2008 server network we have a work.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi

To get yourself into IT infrastructure ladder, you will need to take some courses in MTA (Microsoft Technology Associate)
Microsoft Technology Associate (MTA) is an introductory Microsoft certification for individuals considering a career in technology. MTA certification addresses a wide spectrum of fundamental technical concepts, assesses and validates your core technical knowledge, and enhances your technical credibility. Note MTA exams do not qualify for MCP certification, nor are they a prerequisite for MCSA or MCSD certification.

You will need to take the following course

Course 40365A: Windows Server Administration Fundamentals
Course 40366A: Networking Fundamentals

After which you might decided to take Course 6433A : Windows Server 2008, Server Administrator

Or buy the following books

I hope this helps.

Emmanuel Adebayo,

You have signed me up for three courses. If you had to pick just one course that would help an Electronics Engineer get an understanding of the Windows 2008 network at his workplace, what would it be?

I would prefer something hands on that would require me to set up a small practice network at home.

If you just want to set up a small lab at home and you can just get the Sams Teach Yourself Windows Server 2008 in 24 Hours (Sams Teach Yourself...in 24 Hours), I though you are prepring to get your ladder into It Infrastructure certification.
