Not sure if DVDs have issue or the DVD player. How to identify and fix.Can i just extract audio is more important in worst case. please advise

dell inspiron(windows 7 home premium, 32 bit) DVD player is not working.

Couple of days back it was working fine. Yesterday when i put DVD at 17 sseconds it stopped. I changed to different DVD that also stopped at 17 second by playing till then. Not sure if DVDs have issue or the DVD player. How to identify and fix.Can i just extract audio is more important in worst case. please advise
