dell inspiron DVD player

Hi,

dell inspiron(windows 7 home premium, 32 bit) DVD player is not working.

Couple of days back it was working fine. Yesterday when i put DVD at 17 sseconds it stopped. I changed to different DVD that also stopped at 17 second by playing till then. Not sure if DVDs have issue or the DVD player. How to identify and fix.Can i just extract audio is more important in worst case. please advise

What version of Inspiron do you have?  This is important due to different models have different cases.

Try booting the PC from a LiveDVD, like PCRepix (use the 32 bit version to ensure compatibility if your hardware is older). If you can boot from the DVD, the drive, at least the DVD part of it, is fine:

i tried same DVD on one other lenova laptop and DVD is playing fine without any interruption

Can you take the screw out of the bottom that holds the DVD player in and remove the DVD player and then plug it back in?  You could have some issues with your connection.  If that isn't it I would see about cleaning the DVD player.

Download the iso file burn it to a DVD using a tool like infrarecorder to burn it to a blank DVD-R or +R. When using InfraRecorder select "Write image and then select the iso.

After that on your Dell PC go into the BIOS and change the boot order so the DVD drive comes first. Insert your DVD and if the drive is fine it will boot into the DVD and not Windows.
