Can WordPress.com email subscribers read/comment via email?

I have a Wordpress.com account and recently made my blog private. I have some subscribers to my blog (before making it private) but from what I see, making a Wordpress.com blog private, a user must have a role of Viewer and be logged into their Wordpress.com account to view my blog. Is that correct?

Most of my email subscribers do not have a Wordpress.com account. If I create a post, would those subscribers still be able to view the full post via the email they receive (not an excerpt but the full post) and can they comment on my post within their email? In other words, I don't want to force my email subscribers to have to get a Wordpress.com account to view my posts. since they are email subscribers, if they can view my posts and comment on them (if they wish to) via the email of the post, then that would be most ideal.

Any ideas?

By making the blog private, you force people to have an account to see it and thus comment on it.  You also have to approve them.

So while the emails may still go out to the old subscribers, they won't be able to interact with you at all without an account.

Thanks Jason. So can these old subscribers still view new posts within the email? In other words, when I publish a new post, those old subscribers will still receive an email of that new post yes?

I think it's just an excerpt of the post, not the full post.

I'm not as familiar with .com as I am with self hosted Wordpress, though.  You may want to open a support ticket with them to verify.
