Filemaker Server - Filemaker Go - Concurrent connections - Multiple-file solution

Hi there,

Can you please confirm that "Filemaker Server 14" concurrent connections are connections to "Solutions (fmp12 files)", not to the Filemaker Server itself?

SOURCE:
http://help.filemaker.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/13102/~/understanding-concurrent-connections

Accessing a multi-file solution only requires one concurrent connection and not one for every file that is being accessed.  The exception to this would be if you have multiple files open in multiple windows in a browser using FileMaker WebDirect.  In this case, one (1) concurrent connection would be required for each browser window or tab that is using FileMaker WebDirect.

So if I would have 10 solutions (10 X .FMP12 files) from which, 10 "Filemaker Go 14" users connect to their proper solution (file), would that actually require only one single Filemaker Server 14 connection license?

If not, can you please briefly explain?

Thanks for you help,
Rene

No, sort of. If the 10 FMP Go users connect at the same time, 10 connections are needed.
If the 10 FMP Go users connect at different times, 1 connection would be needed.

Each FMP Go is a Filemaker Client  -  concurrent means at the same time.
Each WebDirect browser window is a Filemaker Client..
Each Local or Remote FileMaker Pro installed on a device is a Client.

You could have a 100 clients  and each was programmed to connect for 5 minutes a day at a different time, you would need 1 connection.

Thanks David,

So if I understand correctly:

-If I am accessing multiple solutions with Webdirect from my PC, I sill need only one connection.
-If I have multiple Webdirect sessions on my PC connecting to the same solution, I still only using one connection.

Correct?

Thanks,
Rene
Each browser window or TAB is one client.
Two browser windows with two tabs connecting to the FMP Server is FOUR clients, Four connections.
One browser window can not access more than one database at a time.

Multiple solutions on the server means Different Separate Databases? or 1 database that offers up data unique to the user logging in?

Webdirect is NOT…
a replacement for FileMaker Pro client.
as fast as FileMaker Pro client.
software that can do everything FileMaker Pro client does.
to be used to build big public web sites.
free. It costs money through concurrency licensing. Sold in packs of 5 for FileMaker Server.
designed for mobile use on Android…though it may work in some limited cases.

Thanks David for all you help :)

In order to wrap this up, basically, any connections by using FM Go and WebDirect from whatever to FileMaker Server14 is considered as a concurrent connection. Right?

By the way, I actually created an account yesterday night on the FMP Community, and subscribed to the Filemaker Developer Program.

Cheers,
Rene

It is a connection as long as it is connected - both will be signed out after a period of inactivity.
It is concurrent with other active connections.
The disconnect is not instantaneous, it may take the server a minute or five to open the connection slot.
The server will refuse the 6th concurrent connection if it is limited to five.
