When were the latest / newest Cisco routers released?

Hello Cisco Experts,

Do you happen to know when were the latest Cisco routers released? It seems to me that most Cisco routers under $1,500 with a proper IOS are ancient. Could you list 3 Cisco routers that cost no more than $1,500 and were released in the last 2 years? The routers must be able to run the newest IOS. Please provide a source for their release date.

Thank you.

The entire 880 and 890 family was refreshed last year with the new C880 and C890 models. Faster hardware, more RAM, better interface support (Gigabit Ethernet switch and SFP WAN on the C891F, for example) are a few highlights. I can't find the actual announcement, but have included the end-of-life announcements for the 880 and 890 series units showing the C880 and C890 series routers as the recommended upgrade path.

Finding an exact release date is difficult, but if you check the data sheet for the C880 routers on Cisco's web site, you can see that the earliest IOS release that is supported for this model is 15.3(3)M2.

Looking at the software downloads page for the C881, it lists the release date for 15.3(3)M2 as 2014/1/31, so we can be sure the router isn't older than this.

Add to those the new C841M routers that just came out this year — so new that they don't support a stable IOS release earlier than 15.5(3)M2. So between the C841M, the C880 refresh and the C890 refresh, there's your three families under $1,500 that are fewer than two years old.
