can I connect 2 communication devices on 1 telephone line?

Hello and Good Afternoon Everyone

I recently purchased a Brother FAX-575 Personal Fax, Phone, and Copier machine and wish to share this device on the same telephone line which is occupied by my answering machine.  Can I do this or will I have to add an entirely separate telephone line to achieve the desired outcome?

           Thank you

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hello and Good Evening Everyone

Thank you so much for the resourceful links containing easy to understand and follow instructions.  I am happy to say that both, the fax machine and the regular telephone with answering machine are now successfully interfaced with one another.  I look forward to trying out the new fax machine for personal and business needs.
