Is there any tool that can monitor the disk healthiness of a VMware host ? Hope it can send out an alert email in case of any disk failure.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

vCenter Server can monitor hardware and alert if this is a RAID failure, if you VMware ESXi server, recognises the storage controller in your ESXi Server. e.g. HP, IBM, Dell servers.

You could also try Solar Winds monitoring, Whats-Up Gold, or Veeam One.

Do I need to install anything on the ESi ? Where can I setup the alert email for the h/w problem ?

Nothing to install on ESXi.

But you would have to configure on the application used to monitor.

The alerts are already pre-configured, so you just have to enable, create an action, and then enter an email address.
