I have made an image using WIndows 8.1 and want to install on my VM machine, I have over the network but its not working, I believe that this because the VM hasn't got an IP, so I put the image n a portable drive and again I cant achieve what I want, can anyone help? Thanks Alex

Bridged Networking is selected :) But when I I load windows, restore options > troubleshoot >  CMD, I am unable to ping anything on the network. All other VM's are fine! So I decided to use USB even though the VM can see imaged.
Thanks for the help, its appreciated.
It would seem Windows does not have a driver for the VM loaded.

can you check networking in that VM ?
Now you have lost me
When you load WIndows you cannot ping, because there is no network interface in the restore VM.
Okay - I don't think have made myself clear so I will try to just bullet point this.

1. I wanted to test Windows Imaging Windows 8
2. I wanted to test the image in a VM
3. I created a New VM and said that I would install the OS later.
4. I stared the VM using a Windows 8 CD
5. It try to load using PXE
6. I ESC this and wait for the OS to start the install
7. I choose repair
8. Choose Advance
9. Search for image on USB or network neither work.

Alex
Okay, to search the network, the OS must have a network interface which the Windows CD recognizes... this is why this is failing,.

as for USB, you have connected the USB device to the VM ?
Okay I would like to do this via USB, please can you confirm how I connect the device. I thought I was doing it right but perhaps not. Alex
it the task bar of the VM window of teh VM I see the VM HDD, CD, NIC, Printer, Sound, and USB device all with green dots
Select > VM > Removeable devices > select the USB device > Connect (disconnect from host)

that should connect the device to the VM.
Which it does so thats part is good but i cant load the image as when it search its see no image.
The issue is resolved Andrew you are correct about USB, I will update you again tomorrow as I need to turn off this PC.  Thanks for all the help.
Hi Andrew - The USB driver worked but only on 1 particular USB drive which I found strange. Your solution worked on I wanted to understand why it worked on only this particular USB drive.
That does seem strange, and it must be down to supported USB devices.
