Any unlocked phone will work for boost mobile.
If a Sprint locked phone will work for Boost Mobile, theoratically yes, since Boost Mobile uses the Sprint network. However, to be 100% sure, please call or email Boost support.

You do NOT need to enter BOOST as a search keyword, you only need to find an unlocked phone.

so keyword is 'unlocked'

some phones are made with and without sim cards

my boost mobile phone does not have a sim card
KimputerCommented:
All phones need a SIM card to work properly!

Phones are not made with or without SIM cards.
Phones are made with a SIM card slot. Providers can buy these phones to resell along with their own SIM card as a bundle, and then lock it, so the subscriber won't use the phone with another provider.

Searching for unlocked phones is enough to have it be compatible with Boost Mobile.

i can not see a sim card

are you suggesting some phones have a 'hidden' sim card
KimputerCommented:
Every phone has a SIM card slot (otherwise it can't work. For the S4, it's under the back cover (open it up to reveal the battery, but also SIM card AND microSD card slot).

If you mean, you want to have a BOOST mobile SIM card, of course it's not there. You buy a phone, and you get the SIM card from your provider.
rgb192Author Commented:
but boost mobile phones do not have sim card that owner can take out
KimputerCommented:
I think you're referring to the new types of phones (where it indeed didn't depend on SIM card)  where second hand phones are best handled as described here:

www.boostmobile.com/support/faq/phones-devices/certified-pre-owned-phones/

You want to save money buy buying second hand from another site, but since you have no way to check if the truth is told by the seller, don't risk it and buy official certified pre owned.
rgb192Author Commented:
my phone is pre-owned
but I do not know if it was certified pre-owned

my phone works great but I just can not find the sim card slot.
KimputerCommented:
No, you were correct about the SIM card, with BOOST, they use modified phones, where the phones unique IMEI code serves as the ID (instead of "normal" operators, using the SIM card as the ID).
You now need to know if it's certified or not, call Boost Mobile customer service if they're willing to check it for you.
If not, follow the steps here: https://apps.boostmobile.com/boostApp/handsetIdentifier.do

Okay my current phone has no sim card.

Now I am looking to purchase a NEWER phone

so my original question:

will samsung galaxy s4 'unlocked' worked for boost mobile
will sprint work for boost mobile

I want to find the most affordable phone on ebay that is an s4 'regular size' not 'mini size'

not many results if I search for 'boost'

Since Boost has their own unique way of handling hardware, I cannot recommend you to just go with eBay or any other means of buying ANY phone other than what I said before:
www.boostmobile.com/support/faq/phones-devices/certified-pre-owned-phones/
I already explained, there are TOO many factors where you will get a phone that you _THINK_ is Boost enabled, but you have NO way of checking. When these situations occur (things you can't check), that's where the opportunity for misleading is created, and that's where you will find the most fraud.
If you want to be sure, first call Boost support, ask if inputting the unique hardware code on this website is enough to check: https://apps.boostmobile.com/boostApp/handsetIdentifier.do
If Boost assures you this website can check if the hardware will work, ONLY buy from eBay AFTER you get pictures of the serial number of the device (don't ask them to email you the serial number, maybe they made it up), and then input it on the website to verify it can be used.
After it's been verified, THEN proceed to buy it.
