mapping network

Hello,

Our network is made up of devices from various vendors - Brocade/Foundry, Cisco and HP switches - inc layer 2/3 devices. SAN From Dell, Tape Backup from Dell.

I have inherited the network with no documentation what so ever. I need info on ports, vlans etc so that I can not only understand how it was setup for also help with with upgrade/replacing all devices to one vendor - preferably HP Procurve.

I am looking for free tool to do this.

Any suggestion.

Kind Regards,

Mike

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You could use SpiceWorks. This is a free inventory tool with the capability to create a network map.

SpiceWorks is great for finding all the devices that are on your network however to get to the granular level of checking the ports for VLANs and other information the best software I have found for this is NetBrain.  The software offers a 30 day trial and works amazing for finding a deep dive investigation for your core infrastructure.
