Disable Return Receipt In Lotus Notes

Hi everyone,  I found this excerpt on how to disable a return receipt on incoming mail.  This is great, than you to the original author.  I was hoping someone could expand upon it and give me instructions on how to formulate the agent.  I know how to create one, but I have options for formula and lotus script.  I select formula but I am not sure how to structure it to occur before mail arrives so it executes at the right time.

Here's the simple solution:
Any mail arriving in your mail file that has a read receipt will have a field named "ReturnReceipt" with a value of 1.
If no return receipt was enabled the field does not exist.

Simply create an agent in your mail DB for on event BEFORE new mail arives and add the following quick formula to it then enable the agent:

FIELD ReturnReceipt:= ReturnReceipt;
@If(@IsAvailable(ReturnReceipt);
@If(ReturnReceipt = "1";
@Do(
@SetField("ReturnReceipt"; "0");""); ""); "");
SELECT @All

A better option in my opinion is to check for receipt being wanted when a document is opened and prompt the user whether they want to send a receipt as sometimes you might want to, or to know that it has been requested at least?

will look back at question from PC later and gives details.

Actually I had already put it on my scripts site, this is the way I have used in the past:

http://scripts.dragon-it.co.uk/links/lotus-notes-ask-return-receipt

Ask if not sure on any of that. Could also amend the Memo and other forms but it was simplest just to change the Inbox for me then.

Thanks for the info.  I looked at this and tried that, but it does not prompt at all.  Any ideas?

It does say when I do this, I may loose my changes because it is inheriting from something else.  I look though and it doesn't appear I am looking my changes, but maybe it is not evaluating because of it.

OK.  I will run through my own page to make sure it works on a current template.

View / Design on my mail file, or into Designer then open it
Drill down under Folders to get to ($Inbox)
Now inbox should be private so it shouldn't prompt about losing changes due to inheritance.
Move down to QueryOpenDocument
Make sure it says "Client" and "Formula" and paste in the code:
@If(@IsAvailable(ReturnReceipt);
      @If(ReturnReceipt = "1";
      @If(@Prompt([YesNo];"Confirm"; "The sender of this message has asked
to be notified when you read this message. Do you wish to notify the
sender?") = 0;
                @SetField("ReturnReceipt";"0");
    "");
     "");
"")

That works for me, just opened one and it says the message above and answering No cleared the receipt required field.

So, what I have figured out is if I send the email to myself with a read receipt it prompts me but if someone else sends to me (a employee) it does not prompt.

Odd.  have a look in the document.  Press Alt-Enter to bring up the properties box.  In the second tab are a list of all the fields.  Scroll down and look for ReturnReceipt.  If it shows 1 a receipt is required, if it is 0 then it isn't.

The other kind of receipt is a delivery receipt which is sent by the server to acknowedge it getting to a mailbox, not read.  You can control those at a server level if wanted through config on the server NAB.

Have a look at those fields before you open it to start with.  Have you got message preview window open for instance, try withouit?

A quick google shows doc on the server setting to control replying to receipts too if wanted:

Yeah, that server setting is set to disabled.  I wonder if preview is causing it to not work?  I am at a loss right now!

well check if the fields are set in a message.  if they say returnreceipt=0 then it hasn't got to you asking for a receipt, probably because it is turned off at the server level so it doesn't make it to you.

So, are you thinking I should enable it?  Because, I only get prompted sometimes.  It is hit or miss and I cannot figure it out as to why.

Steve KnightIT ConsultancyCommented:
Another option if you prefer is change the design of your view to add or amend an existing column to show you that field or an icon chosen based on it to show if receipt is wanted.

I'd say if you are getting prompted occasionally it is probably working and the other ones haven't asked for a receipt?

You could also set your location document to use local replica of mail file and not to send mail automatically then your return receipts will show stuck in your outgoing mail.box

No, they are sending them because I am asking them to send them and they are sending me back the return receipt email they received when I opened it so....  I guess it just doesn't work.  Back to the beginning.

Steve, how do we do the replica thing you mention above.  I saw where I can setup locations in document but I don't see where I can specify not to send mail automatically.

Let me know if you are able.

Thanks!

Sorry have been really busy.... do you run a local mail file replica already?  You can create one in a number of ways but, for example, right click on your mail icon, does it show option of "local" already or just your server name?  If it doesn't then right click and choose Make Available Offline.

Click into your location document - probably says Office in bottom right hand corner of notes screen and choose edit location

In edit tab go to Mail tab, change mail file location from server to Local.
At the bottom change Transfer outgoing mail if  X messages pending to, say, 10

You can also untick the "Send outgoing mail" option in your replication tab once you are using local mail, you can double click on the send outgoing mail option to see the outgoing mailbox - it is a local databases called "mail.box"
