Remote Desktop Connection on Windows 10 does not Work

Hello,

I am using Remote Desktop Connection on Windows 10 and it can not connect to the another PC I used to connect to with Windows 8.1.  On the Windows 10 PC, I have the firewall open to allow RDC to go through but it can not connect.  I used to connect to several PCs and servers from my Windows  8.1 PC with RDC, but when I upgraded to Windows 10, RDC could not connect.  I am using the new Windows 10 app and RDC found in %SystemRoot%\system32\mstsc.exe.  Neither work.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

It works fine on my Windows 10 machine. Make sure you are using Windows 10 Pro (probably is). Make sure you are on the Desktop and make sure you are using the standard remote desktop application. It works.

If not, is all other network activity completely normal?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
Also from my own experience upgrading to Windows 10, you may need to re-install / repair your Anti-Virus application.

I using Windows 10 Home edition.  Is this a problem for RDC?
Active Protection takes the fight to cryptojacking

While there were several headline-grabbing ransomware attacks during in 2017, another big threat started appearing at the same time that didn’t get the same coverage – illicit cryptomining.

Yes. You need Pro for Remote Desktop. There are third party products like VNC that may work. I always use Windows Pro and Remote Desktop always works (any version of Windows).

OK, what about the new RDC Windows 10 app that you can download from the MS App store?  Does that not work?
JohnBusiness Consultant (Owner)Commented:
That app (%windir%\system32\mstsc.exe) is, in fact, Windows 10 Remote Desktop Connection. That is what I am using. I think you need Pro for it to work.
