slow computer

All of a sudden my win 7 pro HP laptop is very slow.  My email comes in slow on outlook and when I try and click on excel it takes almost a minute to bring up.  Also when I am in excel I try to click on a cell and it won't respond for about 6 seconds.  Any ideas?

Hello,

There are several problems that could appear with those symptoms.
Excessive amount of junk/temp files that are clogging Windows. | I'd suggest downloading CCleaner or another similar product and running a few passes
There are multiple programs running in the background that are taking away valuable memory. |Solution would be to check your startup list and remove anything that doesn't need to be ran in the boot of your machine.
Your experiencing the beginning stages of RAM or hard-drive failure. | I'd run diagnosis on those based on the manufacturer of your product.
Windows might be corrupted or your Office suite has become corrupted | I'd run Office repair and if that doesn't fix the issue then restore Windows to a time that you know everything was operating correctly
I hope these suggestions help.

If this is a sign of hard drive failer I would back up prior to running anything incase this goes when scanning.

You could look into the system resorces.
Right click the taskbar -> Select "Start Windows Task manager" -> Select "Performance" tab
let us know what your getting... this is mine.....

It's also possible that the cooling fan is plugged up with lint.  I have seen many laptops slow down simply because of a clogged fan.

HP is very good in providing service manuals for their laptops.

Do a search on "laptop model HP  service manual" and pull the fan out and clean it.

any way to blow the hell out an area of the laptop with a can of air and it will get the fan clean?
The best way to clean the fan is to remove it from the case. However, you can use a can of air and fire it diagonally into the vent ports to push as much debris as possible out of the case. Additionally, depending on the model you can use q-tips to wipe the fan blades down without removing it.
