Windows 10 edge icons blank

I upgraded my Windows 8.1 pro 64bit to Windows 10 pro 64bit. I had several shortcuts on my desktop to various sites I visit often, These shortcuts used to have the Chrome icon (since Chrome was default) but now they are a picture of blank paper with a folded upper right corner.

I did the right-click/properties/change icon on a couple of them but it only shows the default bunch of icons, it does not reset to the application.

How can I cause the edge icon to show on my internet shortcuts? Is there a fairly simple fix?

Many of the other icons are OK or changed for Windows 10 but still OK.

I did a search for iconcache.db and got 27 files and one folder. Some are for different resolutions as modifiers like 'wide' or '32' or '1080' etc., are in the file names. I am reluctant to just delete them all.

There are 16 from the upgrade day and the rest from previous dates.

I upgraded from Windows 8.1 to Windows 10 and it is now all working properly.

Repair or reinstalling the application that does not work. I have done that.

Then go to Settings, Systems, Default Apps and look through there for changes to default apps.
Also go to Settings, Systems, Apps and Features and review these,

All my application icons came over properly. I use the application / vendor icons for my applications

Hi John, I am glad you had success.

The problem I am having  involves the new windows 10 EDGE browser which is now the default browser. As it is the default browser I expected the internet shortcuts to take on the Edge icon since they previously had the Chrome icon.

The shortcuts still work. The name of the shortcut is still there. The picture is a blank piece of paper. How can I get the edge icon to appear in my shortcuts?

Are you seriously suggesting I re-install Edge?

New Windows often makes you (well, me) feel stupid. I open command prompt and try to run SFC /SCANNOW  and I get denied because I am not running it as administrator or something.

I am using an administrator account. Clue please. Thanks.
Right click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator and then run SFC again. See if it helps.
Also run Windows Update again as Patch Tuesday this week affected Windows 10. So do run updates.

After running SFC, go to Settings, Systems, Default Apps and go to the bottom (or near the bottom) and Reset Defaults. This may bring Edge back with its icon. I have not yet determined if you can reinstall Edge.

Solved it myself by going back to what worked before instead of making the new thing work properly. The experts gave good suggestions but those suggestions did not solve the problem. I spent most of a day on this ... I am moving on.
